GamersNexus investigated whether there are any differences between the performance of Noctua fans made in China and those made in Taiwan. The website concludes that there is a color difference, but no significant performance difference.

The comparison test looked at airflow, noise production and rotational speed when using pwm. According to GamersNexus, there is no significant measurable difference between NF-A14 fans from China and Taiwan in all these areas. There are minor differences, but these are variations that are also measurable regardless of the origin of the fans. The tech website publishes its findings in an article and in a video.

The investigation is in response to complaints that appeared on Reddit last month. A user had bought a large amount of Noctua fans and found that some were made in China while others are from Taiwan. In addition, there was a color difference between the fans. This led to a discussion about the quality of the fans from China. The Reddit poster suggested that the quality of the Chinese fans leaves something to be desired, as the finish would be worse. He also claimed that the fans from China produce more noise than the Taiwanese variants. GamersNexus’ research contradicts that there are noticeable differences. Eight fans were used for the test, including the copies of the person who posted the complaint on Reddit.

Noctua tells GamersNexus that it has had fans made in China for years. Usually fans of one type are made in one factory, but in the case of the NF-A14, production took place in both countries to meet the high demand. The chance that users will encounter fans from different batches when purchasing, would be small, because all new ones are made in China and the models are from Taiwan from old stock.
