Reporters Without Borders has opened The Uncensored Library in Minecraft. The library, built from virtual blocks, contains articles that are censored by oppressive regimes. The organization wants to offer a detour to make the articles transparent.

The Uncensored Library was built by BlockWorks. That took three months and 12.5 million virtual building blocks were used. 24 people from 16 countries worked on the construction and it took more than 250 hours, according to the organization.

The library contains Minecraft books with articles by journalists from Egypt, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, and Vietnam. These countries are all very low on the list of press freedom. The articles that can be found in the library are all censored in the country of origin.

According to the organization, Minecraft is accessible in countries where critical blogs and sites are blocked and residents can consult the articles in this way. The articles are available in English and in the original language. The library can be accessed through the Minecraft server visit.uncensoredlibrary.com.
