Replica of HAL 9000 from movie 2001: A Space Odyssey goes into production

An Indiegogo campaign for a replica of the famed HAL 9000 system from the 2001: A Space Odyssey movie achieved its goal of raising nearly four times its target amount. The replica is a speaker with support for bluetooth 4.0.

Behind the HAL replica is the American company Master Replicas Group. It reports that it is a product with an official license from Warner Bros. goes. There are two variants, with the company describing one version as a bluetooth speaker with the familiar appearance of HAL 9000 including the red glowing ‘eye’. That version also has a holder in which the speaker can be placed.

There is also a limited edition of 2001 copies, which also has a wall plate. The speaker can be placed back in there. The wall plate has a 10.1 “screen with which ‘interaction’ is possible. Both versions have support for various virtual assistants. The separate speaker costs a hefty $ 419 for early birds, while the more extensive version costs $ 889.
