Renault presents the Renault Scénic Vision, a concept car that demonstrates a new platform that combines a 40 kWh battery with a hydrogen fuel cell. Renault expects to be able to use the platform in production cars from 2030.

The battery of the Renault Scénic Vision is small for an EV, but the car also gets a hydrogen fuel cell of 16kW. According to Renault, this means in the future 800km to drive with one refueling in between. According to the car manufacturer, this combination of hydrogen cell and battery burdens the environment less than comparable battery-electric cars, because, for example, fewer raw materials are needed for the smaller battery.

To make this combination of electric driving and driving on hydrogen realistic, according to Renault, the network of hydrogen stations must first be expanded. The French manufacturer expects this network to be sufficient by 2030 to equip the first cars with this technology. Against Autocar Renault says it will develop the hydrogen platform, so that the company has additional options if the development and production of EV batteries later disappoint.

It is not for nothing that the Renault Scénic Vision has the name of Renault’s MPV line. The manufacturer announces that a new Renault Scénic will also be on the market in 2024. This will be an EV that is still fully battery-electric and therefore does not get a hydrogen cell. In addition, according to Renault, it will be a cross between an MPV and an SUV, which will broadly resemble the design of the concept car that was presented.
