Qualcomm shows VR glasses with its new Snapdragon XR2 chipset that should serve as a reference for manufacturers for VR glasses with the 5G chipset. The glasses include seven cameras.

The reference design is intended for virtual reality, augmented reality and mixed reality. There are two internal cameras for eye tracking. In addition, there are four external cameras, two RGB models for mixed reality and two for head tracking and depth measurements.

For the 5g connectivity, the XR2 chipset includes Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X55 modem, and the 5g support should allow, among other things, low latency connections. Qualcomm also mentions the possibility of setting up connections via 60GHz to a PC. This is most likely going through the 802.11ay Wi-Fi standard.

The glasses support voice control and offer a display of 2kx2k images per eye. In addition, 6dof tracking from partner company Northern Digital is available for controllers, as well as embedded eye tracking Tobii.
