Qualcomm presents Snapdragon 768G

Qualcomm has presented the Snapdragon 768G 5G, a soc that is the successor to the 765G announced at the end of last year. The CPU and GPU of the soc are slightly faster than those of the previous version, and the GPU drivers can be updated.

The new soc is pin and software compatible with the Snapdragon 765G, Qualcomm reports. This makes it obvious that manufacturers who were already working on phones with a 765G, can integrate the new soc without much effort. The chance that many phones with the 768G will come out soon, therefore, seems high.

The 7nm Kryo 475 CPU cores in the 768 go up to 2.8GHz, while the 765G is up to 2.4GHz. Qualcomm also claims a fifteen percent performance gain with the GPU, although the GPU with the Adreno 620 is the same. Presumably, that gain comes from a higher clock speed, but Qualcomm usually does not disclose GPU clock speeds.

The GPU drivers of the 768G can also be updated. That is already the case with the 765G. Xiaomi has recently performed a GPU driver update. The Chinese manufacturer is also the first to use the new soc. The K30 5G Racing Edition has the 768G. That phone will be on sale from Monday.
