Qualcomm has announced special socs for bluetooth headphones and other audio headsets. This series bears the name qcc5100 and should result in considerably lower energy consumption compared to previous chips.

The chip manufacturer writes that the energy consumption of the two qcc5100-socs is about 65 percent lower than that of previous bluetooth chips, but without referring to specific models. This concerns the consumption when streaming music and making calls. The socs support bluetooth 5.0 and a hybrid form of active noise canceling. As a result, manufacturers who use the chips should be able to apply this technique more easily.

Both socs are capable of displaying both Qualcomm’s aptX Classic and HD codecs. For example, there are various phones that offer support for this. According to XDA, the support for dual-mode radio means that it is possible to stream to several devices at the same time. The chips are equipped with a dual-core 32-bit processor at 80MHz, in addition to a Kalimba DSP from Qualcomm running at 120MHz. According to the chip manufacturer, devices that have the technology on board will be released in the first half of this year.
