Game journalist Jeff Grubb claims that the PlayStation 5 Pro is scheduled for release in September 2024. This version of PS5 console is said to use ‘Sony’s proprietary DLSS solution’ to improve game graphics performance through machine learning.

In a stream from his YouTube channel Jeff Grubb’s Game Mess the Giant Bomb journalist says that not all specifications of the PlayStation 5 Pro have been determined yet, but that Sony plans to add its own upscaling technology. Sony would also use its own hardware for this in the PS5 Pro. Nvidia’s DLSS, or Deep Learning Super Sampling, is an upscaling technology that enables higher resolutions and frame rates. DLSS is not the only upscaling technology. For example, AMD offers FidelityFX Super Resolution, also known as FSR, and Intel has XeSS, or Xe Super Sampling.

It is not the first time that rumors about the arrival of a PS5 Pro have appeared. In July this year, insider Tom Henderson, among others, claimed that Sony has been working on an upgrade for the PlayStation 5 console since early 2022. According to Henderson, the Pro console will have a GPU of 60 compute units and a memory bandwidth of 18Gbps, compared to the 36 compute units and 14Gbps bandwidth in the PS5 GPU. Henderson mentioned November 2024 as the release date of the Pro version. A thinner version of the PS5 has recently become available in the Benelux, with a separate disk drive.
