Polar introduces the M600, a water-resistant sports watch with a heart rate sensor. The wearable has a 1.3″ screen with a resolution of 240×240 pixels, runs on a MediaTek-soc with two cores, has 512MB of RAM and 4GB of storage.

According to the Finnish manufacturer, the Polar M600 is a smartwatch optimized for athletes. The optical heart rate monitor works with six LEDs, which should provide a higher accuracy than competing wearables that use one or two LEDs. The watch has an IPX8 rating, meaning that users can swim with it and dive up to ten meters.

The resolution in combination with the screen size is good for a pixel density of 260ppi. The screen is covered with Gorilla Glass 3 from Corning. The watch is equipped with WiFi and Bluetooth and weighs 63 grams. There are two physical buttons: the on/off switch and a button on the front that Polar says is useful during training.

The Android Wear watch uses the MediaTek MT2601 soc, which features two ARM Cortex-A7 cores at 1.2GHz. The battery has a capacity of 500mAh and that should provide a battery life of two days, or eight hours of training in combination with an Android smartphone. When used in combination with an iPhone, the battery is good for a day or eight hours of training, according to Polar.

The Polar M600 is the manufacturer’s first Android Wear watch. The smartwatch will be on the market in the third quarter for a suggested retail price of 349.90 euros. Polar already made fitness trackers that work with Android and iOS, such as the Polar M400.
