Plex continues to opt out of feature that shows watch list to friends

Streaming software Plex maintains an opt-out for Watch Together. This is a function that automatically shares the viewing history and viewing list with friends via a weekly email. Many users believe that the feature should be removed or made opt-in.

Plex tells 404Media that it will leave the feature as it is, despite many complaints from users. The function has existed since the beginning of this monthbut many users only found out when Plex sent an email last week with details of what they and their friends watched.

Many users complain about the fact that the opt-out feature is included on the Plex site as well on Reddit. They question whether collecting and using data in this way is legal under existing privacy legislation. Plex says that users have agreed. The function can be turned off by disabling the sharing of privacy-sensitive data in the account under Privacy Settings.
