Sony PlayStation announced a free Silent Hill game during its State of Play that is available immediately. The game is called Silent Hill: The Short Message and can be played from Thursday. Sony also showed a new trailer for the upcoming SIlent Hill 2 remake.

Silent Hill: The Short Message is a game set in a mysterious apartment complex called The Villa, somewhere in Germany. The player takes on the role of Anita, a young woman who must find out what happened to her friend while surviving the dangers of The Villa. The game promises to tackle some heavy themes, such as self-harm and suicide. The game’s existence was already leaked when the South Korean Game Rating And Administration Committee approved the game in September 2022.

PlayStation and Konami announced during the State of Play show that Silent Hill: The Short Message will be available “as soon as possible” after the presentation. It is not clear exactly what time that will be; at the time of publishing this post, the game was not yet available in the PlayStation Store. What is clear is that Silent Hill: The Short Message is free. PlayStation hopes that gamers who are not yet familiar with the horror series Silent Hill will give it a try for this reason, so it can be read in a blog post.

PlayStation also showed a new trailer of Silent Hill 2. That game is expected this year, but Sony did not provide any further information about the release date during State of Play. The new trailer shows gameplay footage that focuses on the game’s modernized combat system.
