Periscope offers possibility to save videos permanently

Periscope is going to offer its users the option to save live streams permanently, instead of just 24 hours. The new feature is currently in public beta testing and will be available as an option within Periscope apps at a later date.

CEO Kayvon Beykpour announced via a video on Periscope that permanent saving of video broadcasts is available by adding #save to the title. In that case, the original 24 hour retention limit will be ignored and the video will remain available. The same goes for any comments posted to the video. Although videos will no longer be deleted, users will still be able to delete them manually.

Later, there will be settings in the Periscope app that allow users to set how and when they want to save their broadcasts. The fact that #save has to be used for the time being has to do with the fact that the feature is being tested as a public beta. The final implementation is still being worked on, but as soon as the final version is released, the use of #save is no longer necessary.

Being able to save videos permanently is something that users have frequently asked for. Competitor Facebook offers a similar feature with Live, and it is already possible to save videos permanently. Periscope itself is part of Twitter.
