ChatGPT maker OpenAI is working with the US military. These are tools for cyber security, according to a top woman at the company.

Previously, OpenAI had an explicit ban on using its software for “military applications and warfare,” but has dropped that, reports Bloomberg based on an interview with a top woman of the company at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. “Because we previously had a blanket ban on military applications, a lot of people thought that this would ban a lot of these applications, which people think are very much in line with what we want to see in the world.”

It is unknown exactly how OpenAI works with the US military. The largest investor in OpenAI is Microsoft, which has been working with the military for some time. OpenAI emphasizes that its tools should still not be used to develop weapons or to attempt to destroy property or people.
