OnePlus is working on an always-on display feature for its existing and new phones. The company writes on Twitter that it will take up that function, although details about when that should happen are not yet known.

OnePlus enrolls a tweet that always-on displays are ‘on the company roadmap’. The company responds to the IDEA program with the tweet. In addition, users can indicate which features they want to see in the phones of the manufacturer. They indicated en masse that an always-on display was their preference. The proposal received more than 999 likes on the forum. It is not known when the position should appear. In an interview on the forum, the company suggests that the feature should be available via a software update and not just in new phones. However, the company warns that it must test the function by phone and that it may therefore take longer for the feature to be final.

OnePlus also writes that battery life is the biggest challenge to have an always-on display. In the meantime, the company is said to have conducted internal tests to measure the effect of AOD on battery life. It would remain that the function would normally consume 350 to 500mAh per day. The company is now working on the option to have aod on a screen with a high refresh rate consume less than 150mAh.
