After the release of new GPU drivers in April, Nvidia will stop supporting 3D Vision, its platform for playing 3D games and watching 3D movies. Nvidia also stops support for mobile Kepler GPUs.

After the GeForce Game Ready drivers with version number 418, which will be released in April, support for 3D Vision will end. If you still use the combination of hardware and software to watch 3D on a screen with support for the technology, you can continue to use that driver version, Nvidia advises. The company will continue to provide critical updates until April 2020.

Nvidia announced 3D Vision in 2009 after TV manufacturers jumped into 3D with 3D TVs. Nvidia’s platform never really became popular, partly due to a lack of games that could be played well in 3D and the requirement for a 120Hz display.

The 3DTV Play software to make 3D Vision work in combination with a 3D TV is part of driver version 418 and will not appear as separate software. Nvidia will make its 3D Vision Video Player available until the end of 2019.

With the driver version 418, Nvidia also discontinues support for mobile Kepler GPUs. Again, critical patches will continue to be offered until April 2020. GeForce Game Ready updates will continue to appear for desktop variants of the Kepler GPUs.
