Nokia smartphones are getting cameras equipped with Carl Zeiss lenses again. HMD has announced this. That is the company behind smartphones with the Nokia brand name on them. Nokia also used to invariably use Zeiss lenses on smartphone cameras.

Both companies do not announce when the first smartphones with Zeiss lenses will appear. The collaboration is exclusive and other brands will therefore not be able to place lenses from the German company on smartphones, according to the announcement.

Nokia has used Zeiss lenses on its smartphones for years, including the N95, N8, 808 PureView and Lumia 1020. Both companies want to enable better cameras on smartphones through the collaboration. HMD has been the maker of Nokia smartphones since this year. The start-up originates from Nokia, but is not part of the Finnish company.

HMD has presented several Nokia smartphones, but none of them have a special camera. These are cheaper models, with prices between 150 and 250 euros. There have been rumors for months about a more expensive Nokia smartphone with dual camera. HMD has not yet announced it.
