Nintendo would increase production of its Switch consoles to 30 million units for the fiscal year ending March 2021, a significant increase from last fiscal year, when 21 million units were shipped.

According to Bloomberg sources, Nintendo has once again ordered its partners to increase production of the Switch. In August, Nintendo also increased the numbers, according to Bloomberg, when the manufacturer was still aiming for 25 million copies for the financial year.

Nintendo has been unable to meet the demand for Switch consoles at times over the past year. The release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons and the corona pandemic created high demand, while the virus outbreak also caused problems for suppliers.

In May, Nintendo announced that 21 million Switch consoles were shipped in the past fiscal year. It involved 6.19 million copies of the Switch Lite, which came out in September last year, and 14.84 million copies of the regular Switch console.

Switch sales are going very well in the current financial year. This was evident from the quarterly figures for the period from May to July. In those three months, Nintendo delivered 5.68 million Switch consoles, of which 2.62 million Lite copies. The number of consoles delivered was 167 percent higher than in the same period a year earlier.
