The Nintendo Switch console will not have Virtual Console games at its release next week. As a result, players will not be able to play games from previous consoles on the new hardware. When Virtual Console will be available, Nintendo will announce later.

Nintendo remains unclear as to whether that will be shortly after release or whether Virtual Console games will be available much later. “We will share more information in the future,” Nintendo said in an announcement that NintendoEverything has posted. “Nintendo is investigating the possibility of porting digital content purchased on previous systems to Nintendo Switch, but this has not been confirmed at this time.”

However, there will be three indie games running on the Switch when it comes out next week. FAST RMX, Specter of Torment and Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove. In addition, the Switch will come with the Nintendo games Zelda: Breath of the Wild and 1-2 Switch.

Nintendo will release the Switch next Friday. The Switch is a hybrid console. Users can use it on the road as a gaming tablet and at home it can be connected to a TV. Later in the year, about sixty indie games and Nintendo titles such as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Mario Odyssey will follow.
