Nintendo Switch users can’t back up game progress

Nintendo Switch users cannot back up their game progress. Nintendo confirmed this after the info appeared in a faq. If users reset the Switch or the storage gets corrupted, users will lose their progress.

That makes the Switch different from predecessors like the Wii U and Nintendo’s 3DS, which both have ways to save game progress, Kotaku says. Many consoles allow users to copy progress to a memory card to continue playing if the console breaks down, for example, but Nintendo does not support that feature.

The statement from the Japanese game maker leaves open the possibility that the feature will be available on the Switch at a later date. Nintendo says backing up progress in games is not possible “at the moment”.

The Switch was released last Friday, also in the Benelux. The most important game at release is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which also came out last week for the Wii U. In addition, the party game 1-2 Switch and various indie games appeared with the release of the console.
