Nikon unveils action camera for capturing 360-degree images at 4k

Nikon showed the KeyMission 360 at CES. The camera contains an image sensor and lens on both sides, to take 360-degree video and photos with 4k resolution. In addition, Nikon comes with the D500-dslr. It is not known whether those cameras will come to the Benelux.

The KeyMission 360 uses its mutual combination of image sensor and lens to record video and photos on both sides, which are then converted into 360-degree images by the camera. The camera is water resistant to a depth of 30 meters and can also withstand dust, pressure and low temperatures without the camera stopping working. In addition, the camera can electronically reduce the effects of vibration. The KeyMission is the first in a new line of action cameras from Nikon. Nikon does not give any further details about the model and the manufacturer speaks of a ‘reference model’.

Nikon has also announced the D500 in the US, but Nikon Benelux does not mention this model, so it is not clear whether the dslr will come out here. The 20.9-megapixel camera has an aps-c sensor, but the image processor is the same as that of the also announced D5 with fx sensor. The autofocus system also supports 153 af-points, 99 of which are cross-sensitive. The camera has an ISO range of 100 to 51,200, which is expandable to ISO 50 to 1,640,000. The D500 offers a maximum burst speed of 10fps and can shoot 4k video at 30fps. The D500 is the first to use Nikon’s new SnapBridge technology to transfer images via Bluetooth to smartphones, for example. The model also supports NFC and WiFi. In the US, the dslr will be available in March for 2000 dollars, currently converted around 1860 euros.
