Nikon indefinitely postpones launch of DL cameras with 1″ sensor

Nikon has announced that many of its recently announced cameras will be arriving later than planned. The 360-degree camera KeyMission shown at CES will not arrive until October. The DL compacts have been delayed indefinitely due to a production issue.

In a short announcement, Nikon writes that there are ‘serious problems’ with the chips for the image processing in the Nikon DL cameras. These three compact devices with 1″ sensor were introduced in February and were expected to hit the market in June. Due to the problems, the introduction has been postponed and a new date for delivery of the cameras has yet to be determined. Nikon says more about this. to be made once a decision has been made.

The Nikon KeyMission 360 also arrives much later than expected. Nikon announced the action camera that captures 360-degree images in 4k resolution at CES in January and promised a release in the spring. Because the software still has to be adapted, the market introduction has now been postponed until October.

Nikon also announces that the Coolpix A300, B500 will be on the market in May. That is slightly later than the planned release in April. The A900 and B700 will have to wait longer, these models will not be released until July, while they should have appeared together with the other two models in April.

Earlier, Nikon had to postpone the release of the D500 dslr. The high-end aps-c camera was supposed to hit the market in March, but is now expected at the end of April. Nikon also said in the statement that several parts suppliers were affected by the recent earthquakes in Japan. According to the manufacturer, it is inevitable that this will have an impact on the availability of Nikon cameras and lenses. Nikon uses Sony sensors, among other things. The factory in Japan where Sony makes sensors for digital cameras is currently closed.
