Nikon announces the Z f, a full-frame system camera that resembles the classic FM2 in design, but is equipped with the same Expeed 7 processor as the Nikon Z9. The camera will be released in the Benelux in October for a suggested retail price of 2,499 euros.

The Nikon Z f is equipped with a 24.5-megapixel sensor with a 273-point autofocus system. The camera is powered by the Expeed 7 processor, which was previously in the Z9 and Z8. This processor enables burst photography at 30fps and would enable a pre-release recording in which captured images are buffered for up to one second. The same processor should also help automatically focus on the subject and recognize people, animals and vehicles through AI. According to the Japanese company, this is the first time that one of its cameras supports pixel shift recording.

Users can also select the focus point via the touch-sensitive 3.2″ screen. Speaking of the screen, Nikon says it is the first time that a full-frame camera from the Z series has a swiveling and tilting screen.

As far as the design is concerned, Nikon says it has been inspired by the FM2, which is firstly visible in the shape of the fairly compact system camera, which weighs 710 grams. In practice, this design also influences how the user uses the camera, because the Z f, for example, has five ‘old-fashioned’ physical dials to set things such as the recording mode, shutter speed and ISO value. The camera has an ISO range of between 100 and 64,000.
