Niantic has started distributing an update for Pokémon Go that changes the method players use to train gyms. The developer has also shortened the animation time of evolving Pokémon, which makes it possible to earn XP faster.

Android Police reports that the new version on the Play Store is available in some countries and has published the apk file on sister site APK Mirror. The Android app has arrived at version number 0.41.2 and the iOS app is back number 1.11.2.

Players can now use six Pokémon to strengthen gyms, and the combat power of the character they’re training against will be adjusted if necessary. With the modified system, Niantic wants to make the game more accessible to players who do not yet have strong Pokémon.

Training gyms, which allow players to place their own Pokémon in a gym to earn coins, will be the same for players of all levels after the update. When novice players train against a powerful Pokémon, the figure’s strength is adjusted according to the strength of the trainer’s Pokémon. Attacking gyms has not changed.

According to users on Reddit who have already received the update, the animation time of an evolution is now 15 seconds. This makes it possible to evolve ninety to a hundred creatures in half an hour, previously that was about sixty. Many fanatic players use lucky eggs in Pokémon Go that give you double the amount of experience points for half an hour for every action. Evolving as many Pokémon as possible during this period is the most efficient way to earn XP in the game. Due to the shorter animation time, more XP can be earned after the update, although players must collect enough Pokémon to evolve.

The update also includes the previously announced change that will make catching Pokémon easier as players catch more critters of a type. Niantic also says that audio issues have been resolved and a number of minor fixes have been applied. Also, the screen showing the Eggs and Incubators will refresh periodically so players don’t have to close and reopen the screen to see the distance covered.
