Apple announced a new version of its Apple TV set-top box at its Spring Loaded event. The cabinet has a new remote control and can now turn the TV on and off thanks to new buttons.

The Apple TV remote also has a way to scroll through movies and series with the outer ring of the touchpad, Apple says. The Siri button will be on the side. The remote control has Power and Mute buttons with which the TV can be operated, the manufacturer claims.

The box contains an Apple A12 Bionic soc, the same soc as in the iPhone XS and XR phones from 2018. According to the manufacturer, it makes it possible to view HDR images at 60 fps in 4k. There is also a function to adjust the color balance of the video output based on input from a light sensor on an iPhone. As a result, the image has to adapt to the space. The new version of the set-top box comes out for 199 euros for a 32GB version. A version without 4k support costs 159 euros. Apple also releases the remote control separately for 65 euros. The remote is compatible with older Apple TV models.
