Eidos-Montréal, the Canadian development studio that was previously part of Square Enix and became part of the Embracer Group this year, is said to be working on a new Deus Ex title. This project is said to be at a very early stage of development.

According to game journalist Jason Schreier In addition to the new Deus Ex project, Eidos-Montréal is also working on an all-new project and has further partnerships with Microsoft to help with certain projects, such as a title for the Fable franchise. There is not much more information about the Deus Ex project yet. In the summer, journalist Jeff Grubb already came up with the rumor that Eidos-Montréal would like to start work on a new Deus Ex title immediately. The developers would like to do what Cyberpunk 2077 wouldn’t have done.

In 2016, Eidos-Montréal released Deus Ex: Mankind Divided as part of Square Enix Europe, but since then there has been little interest from the publisher to do more with the franchise. Eventually, the studio, along with the rights to Tomb Raider, came into the hands of Embracer Group. This company made during the discussion of previous annual figures clear that it had an interest in continuing the Deus Ex franchise, among others. Eidos-Montréal also came up with a special message to emphasize that it now owns the Deus Ex and Thief games.

The original Deus Ex dates from 2000 and the game received five more successors, of which Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is the last. The original is an action RPG with stealth elements set in a dystopian world in the year 2052, where the player takes on the role of an agent who has superhuman powers through nanotechnology. The game received multiple awards and is highly regarded because the player has a lot of freedom to make choices; goals are described, but how they are achieved is up to the player. There was also criticism, including on how basic the hacking and cracking of locks is. Also the graphics and voice actors could not always count on cheers.
