Netflix has announced The Witcher: Blood Origin. The spin-off is about the origins of Witchers and takes place 1,200 years before the events of the first season. The prequel series will have six episodes and is unrelated to the second season in the works.

Netflix brings out via Twitter that the prequel series is coming. It is not yet known when she can be seen on the streaming service. Like the first season of The Witcher, it is about live action with actors. There are no substantive details or images yet. It is only known that the prequel is about the creation of the first Witcher.

Declan de Barra is the showrunner of the prequel series. He also co-wrote the episodes for the first season. Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, director of the Netflix series, is also involved in the prequel. Hissrich confirms on Twitter that writer Andrzej Sapkowski is also participating. The Netflix series is based on his work, as are CD Projekt Red’s Witcher games.

At the end of last year, Netflix already announced that The Witcher will get a second season. That happened even before the series was shown. The recordings for that second season will continue until at least February 2021, according to information from a fansite. It is not yet known when the second season can be seen.

Netflix is also working on an animation film as a spin-off of the series. It’s The Witcher: Nightmare of The Wolf, which is about Witcher Vesemir, the mentor of Geralt of Rivia, the main character of the first season.
