Netflix and SEGA are making Sonic the Hedgehog animated series to be released in 2022

A 3D animated series of Sonic the Hedgehog will appear on Netflix next year. The series will be called Sonic Prime, is aimed at children and families and will initially consist of 24 episodes.

SEGA is making the series in collaboration with animation studio WildBrain. Netflix has ordered the production of 24 episodes, WildBrain writes in a press release. The Canadian studio mainly makes children’s series and has titles such as Fireman Sam, Carmen Sandiego, Chip & Pottato and Snoopy in Space.

Sonic Prime will also be aimed at children, the announcement says. No images of the Sonic series have been released yet. It is known that it will be a 3D animated series. It is not yet clear how long the episodes will last and when the series can be seen in 2022, Netflix has not yet announced.

Sonic the Hedhog has been a character in SEGA games since 1991. According to the Japanese company, 1.14 billion Sonic games have been sold since then. A Sonic the Hedgehog movie was released last year. That’s a live-action movie with an animated Sonic character. The film will have a sequel in 2022.

Netflix has various animation series based on games in its range. There has been an animated series from Castlevania since 2017 and an animated Resident Evil series will be released on the streaming service this year. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will also be released next year and a Tomb Raider animated series was announced last week.
