Netatmo will release its Smart Video Doorbell on September 28. The doorbell informs users with a video call who is at the door and can also signal when movements are detected. The bell has Apple HomeKit support.

The Netatmo Smart Video Doorbell contains a 1080p camera with a wide angle lens of 140 degrees. The camera has an HDR function so that it must be clearly visible what is going on around the house. The camera also uses infrared LEDs to show who is at the door in the dark.

The smart doorbell works over WiFi and can connect to the Netatmo Security app for Android and iOS. All recordings made by the camera are stored locally on an internal microSD card. When someone rings the bell, users receive a notification via the app and can view the video image and possibly have a call.

Users can also set to receive notifications when movements are detected. Netatmo claims that the doorbell is equipped with AI algorithms that distinguish between people and ‘innocent movement’. It is also possible to set Alert Zones, specific areas of the image that need to be monitored. The software will then only send a notification if something happens there.

The doorbell is compatible with Apple HomeKit and can thus be accessed via Siri, for example. Some Netatmo equipment can also handle Ifttt, but this does not yet apply to the smart doorbell. The device is waterproof and according to Netatmo easy to install yourself, using the existing wiring of a regular doorbell. The smart doorbell is compatible with existing electrical installations of 8-24 volts and 230 volts. The manufacturer has put a tool online to check the compatibility of existing installations.

Netatmo announced its smart video doorbell in early 2019 and then said the device would be released that same year. Why the doorbell is only now on the market is not clear. The security camera will be in stores from September 28 for a suggested retail price of 300 euros.

Update, Wednesday 11:45 am: Clarifies that no Ifttt support is present yet. “The functionality is not yet on the roadmap for the smart doorbell,” Netatmo said.
