Motorola has introduced the Razr 40 line of foldable flip phones. This year, two Razr phones will appear for the first time, including an ultra variant in addition to the regular one. That ultra has, among other things, a larger screen on the front and costs 1200 euros, 300 euros more than the normal Razr 40.

Both phones are folding phones with a 6.9″ OLED screen on the inside of the fold with a resolution of 2640×1080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 22:9. This screen has a maximum brightness of 1400cd/m² and support for HDR10+ in both versions. The ultra version supports 120 percent of the DCI-P3 color spectrum and has a refresh rate of 165Hz; the regular razr gets a refresh rate of up to 144Hz.

The differences are greater on the small screen on the outside. The Ultra has a 3.6″ OLED screen with a resolution of 1066×1056 pixels and a 1:1 aspect ratio. This screen has a maximum brightness of 1100cd/m² and a refresh rate of 144Hz. The cheaper Razr has a 1.5 “screen with a resolution of 194×368 pixels and a 2:1 aspect ratio. This display has a refresh rate of 60Hz and a peak brightness of 1000cd/m².

The ultra also has more powerful hardware with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC and 8 or 12GB Lpddr5 memory. The UFS 3.1 storage has a capacity of 265 or 512GB. The normal Razr gets the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC and 8GB of memory. This device also has UFS 2.2 storage, with a capacity of 256GB.

Motorola’s cheaper new Razr does get a larger battery capacity, with 4200mAh compared to the 3800mAh of the Ultra. Both devices can be charged with a maximum of 30W. The two phones also differ in cameras. The regular Razr gets a 64-megapixel camera and a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with the smaller screen, while the Ultra gets a 12-megapixel camera and a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera. Both phones will have a 32-megapixel selfie camera in the large screen that can combine 4 sensor pixels to take 8-megapixel photos.

Both phones will receive Android 13 upon release. Motorola promises three Android upgrades and four years of security updates. The two phones are 74mm wide. When opened they are 170mm long and 7mm thick; closed they are 88mm long. The ultra is then 15mm thick and the regular razr is 16mm thick. Both phones weigh around 188g. The Razr 40 Ultra will be available from Monday for 1,200 euros and will be available in black, magenta and blue. The Razr 40 will be available for sale from mid-July for 900 euros in green, vanilla and lilac.

The bottom four photos are of the regular Razr 40; the rest is from the razr 40 ultra.
