To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Minecraft, Mojang has created a free version of the sandbox game for web browsers. With 32 different blocks and the old 2009 interface, the game is now playable in most web browsers.

Minecraft Classic, as the internet game is called, is free and brings a ‘nostalgic’ sandbox experience without all the updates that have been made over the years. For example, there are only 32 blocks to choose from and the interface is also minimal. There is also a possibility for multiplayer; a player can invite another player via a link. When trying Minecraft Classic, it initially succeeds in actually sending links to others in the game for a multiplayer mode, although those links later turned out to be no longer working. In the meantime, the option seems to be no longer available in the game.

In addition to the Classic fashion, Mojang celebrates the anniversary with memories and prizes. For example, users can send their favorite Minecraft memory to Mojang via Twitter, after which the company will then highlight the best tweets on its own site. Furthermore, users who are active on Instagram can win a trip to the pop culture museum in Seattle. To win the journey, a video must be submitted showing how users will be celebrating the sandbox game’s tenth anniversary.

On May 17, when Minecraft really is ten years old, Mojang will announce more about a new ar game. In a video, Microsoft shows a glimpse of a Pokemon Go-esque Minecraft game.
