Microsoft has stopped offering annual subscriptions to Xbox Live Gold. It is still possible to purchase the service monthly or quarterly. Microsoft is rumored to want to change its Live Gold plan with the introduction of the Xbox Series X.

Microsoft only sells Xbox Live Gold subscriptions for one month or three months through the official channels . The option to pay for a year all at once to save money has disappeared. According to website TrueAchievements , Microsoft has confirmed that it is not a mistake, but a conscious choice. This choice is not further explained.

The change seems to indicate that Microsoft will adjust its Live Gold subscription within a year. There are rumors that with the arrival of the new generation of consoles, Microsoft wants to change its strategy and focus more on the Game Pass subscription.

Microsoft could choose to drop the Live Gold subscription that is now required for multiplayer to persuade players to choose a new Xbox. Another possibility is that Microsoft integrates the functionality of the current Live Gold subscription into a Game Pass subscription.

Last week, Microsoft announced that the function to stream games via xCloud will be part of the Game Pass Ultimate subscription. That $ 13 per month subscription gives you access to hundreds of games for Xbox consoles and PC and also includes Xbox Live Gold benefits.
