Microsoft has released preview update KB5000842 for all editions of Windows 10. This update fixes, among other things, activation issues and shutdown lockups for specific versions of the operating system.

The update fixes the issue where Windows 10 version 2004 stopped responding to a hybrid shutdown, Microsoft says. That issue was caused by a bug in a previous update. In addition, this update should resolve an issue with activating Windows 10 with the OA 3.0 tool. This happened with versions of Windows 10 1809 and later.

Furthermore, this update takes another step towards saying goodbye to Edge Legacy. Microsoft already announced in February that this old version of Edge will disappear and be replaced by the Chromium-based Edge browser. Preview update KB5000842 removes this outdated version of the browser, ahead of the April 13 major update that removes Legacy Edge for all Windows 10 users.

Since it is a preview update, Windows 10 users will need to get and install the update themselves through Windows Update in settings. A full list of all improvements and fixes in update KB5000842 can be found on Microsoft’s website.
