Microsoft Outlook gets autocomplete function when composing emails

Microsoft is going to release an autocomplete feature for its Outlook email service. This feature will be similar to Gmail’s previously released feature, which will automatically include predictive suggestions in the message that allow users to complete words and phrases.

The company describes the feature in a Microsoft 365 support document, stating that it will work similarly to the Smart Compose feature in Gmail, which has been available to users since May 2018.

The autocomplete feature in Outlook suggests optional words or phrases while composing an email, allowing users to take over the predictions by pressing tab or right arrow key. The suggestions can also be ignored by simply continuing to type. The text presentation function can be switched on or off in the settings.

The feature will be available for Outlook.com and Outlook on the web. This is likely to happen later this month, as the feature is currently in “in development” status; the predictive text feature is slated to be released sometime this month.
