Microsoft will stop supporting Windows Mixed Reality. This means that the VR function will no longer be in the new Windows releases. Support for the Mixed Reality Portal app and Windows Mixed Reality for Steam VR will also end.

Windows Mixed Reality is enabled a list of outdated apps and features which will no longer be supported by Microsoft in the new versions of Windows starting in December 2023. No further reason is given for discontinuing support.

Microsoft made Windows Mixed Reality available in 2017. The company tried to compete in the VR market with HTC and Oculus. In addition to Microsoft’s own Hololens headset, other manufacturers had also made VR glasses that worked with WMR, including Samsung, Acer, Dell and Lenovo.
