The Redmond-based software company points to the advantages of the alternatives: the media source extensions and the encrypted media extensions from the W3C for adaptive streaming and content protection, respectively, and dash and common encryption from the Moving Picture Experts Group. “These represent the broadest interoperable technology across browsers, platforms, content and devices to date,” said Microsoft.
