Several users report that the HP Smart app suddenly installs automatically in Windows 10 and 11, even if they are not using an HP device. Microsoft says it is investigating the problem.

According to tests Windows Latest automatically installs the HP Smart app on all versions of Windows that use the Microsoft Store. Normally the app is only pre-installed on HP computers, but now users without HP devices are also reporting that the app is installed on their PC. Even after a clean installation would the app in some cases simply reappearing.

It is not clear why this app installs automatically for many users. Microsoft tells Windows Latest that it has seen users’ reports and will share more information later. With the HP Smart app it is possible to manage the brand’s printers. The app can be deleted manually from the start menu.
