Microsoft after Redfall PS5 claim cancellation: ‘we didn’t take any games from PS’

Microsoft says it “has not removed any games from PlayStation.” This is after game designer Harvey Smith of Redfall maker Arkane stated in an interview that Microsoft had the development of Redfall for PS5 scrapped after the Bethesda acquisition.

Microsoft has to Eurogamer. The tech giant denies that it has “taken games away from PlayStation” and argues that the opposite is more likely to be true. The company references Deathloop and Ghostwire: Tokyo; those have PS5 exclusivity periods of about a year. Minecraft is also mentioned. “Since our Minecraft deal, we’ve expanded the reach of that franchise,” the company says. Just days after the announcement of Mojang’s acquisition, Minecraft came to the PS Vita. Several Nintendo platforms followed later.

With the ruling, Microsoft seems to be stating that Smith’s statements are not true, although it is not a direct denial either. Smith stated on Wednesday: “We were bought by Microsoft and it was a change with a capital V. They came in and said ‘no PlayStation 5, we’re focusing on Xbox, PC and Game Pass’.”

Redfall will also be released for Windows in addition to the Xbox Series X and S. Arkane always served the PlayStation with its previous games Deathloop, Dishonored and Prey. That is no longer the case with Redfall.

Redfall will be released on May 2 and is a first-person shooter with fantasy elements. Players compete against vampires and cult members who worship the vampires. Player characters also have special powers and equipment of their own to introduce variety to gameplay. The game can be played in single player or in co-op with up to four players.
