Microsoft Paint gets a dark mode. This was announced almost two years ago, but is only now available in a test version for Windows Insiders in the Canary and Dev channels. In addition, more zoom options and keyboard shortcuts will become available.

The theme automatically changes based on the theme users have chosen for the overall operating system, but it is also possible to activate dark mode manually, Microsoft writes in a blog post. In 2021, the company already announced that the drawing tool would support a dark theme.

In addition to a dark mode, Paint will receive a number of improvements. This now makes it possible to manually enter the zoom size, instead of having only a limited number of zoom values. There will also be a ‘full screen’ button that zooms the canvas in or out so that it fits exactly in the Paint window.

Furthermore, the appearance of the toolbar has been adjusted to match the Windows 11 design and the dark background. Finally, more keyboard shortcuts have been added. The updates are now available in version 11.2304.17.0 of the Canary and Dev channels. It is not yet known when these features will become available to all Windows users.
