Micron splits Ballistix name from Crucial

Micron has announced that products in the Ballistix brand line will no longer bear the Crucial name. Ballistix continues as a standalone brand, focused on products for gamers.

Until now, the Ballistix brand name has only been used for Crucial memory aimed at gamers. After the split, Ballistix will become a sister company of Crucial, under parent company Micron. In 2004, the first ddr2 benches were released under the Crucial Ballistix brand name. Micron will probably continue to produce ram under the Crucial name, such as the cheaper benches without a heat spreader.

For now, it seems that only ram will appear under the Ballistix brand name. On its website, the company mentions the Sport, Tactical and Elite lines of memory. However, it is not inconceivable that other products for gamers will also appear under the brand name, such as SSDs.

In June, Micron announced that the company would be releasing NVME SSDs under the name “Ballistix by Crucial,” but those plans were canceled in August to redeploy “assets and investments” elsewhere.
