Linksys will start selling WRT1900AC next week for 279 euros

Linksys has announced that the WRT1900AC, a router inspired by the successful WRT54G, will be available April 14. The router, which works on the basis of 802.11ac technology, has a suggested retail price of 279 euros.

Like the WRT54G, the housing of the WRT1900AC has been given a blue color, although it has become a bit lighter. The router is also stackable, just like its predecessor. The WRT1900AC is considerably faster due to the support for the 802.11ac standard. According to Linksys, the router achieves gross throughput rates of up to 1.3Gbit/s on the 5GHz band and up to 600Mbit/s on the 2.4GHz frequency.

The 1kg router, which can also serve as a repeater or wireless bridge, has four detachable antennas. Furthermore, five gigabit Ethernet connections are available, as well as a USB 3.0 connection and a USB 2.0 / esata port. The built-in dual-core ARM CPU has a clock speed of 1.2GHz, while there is 256MB of DDR3 working memory and 128MB storage memory.

Linksys includes the mobile Smart Wi-Fi management app with its firmware, but the router is also suitable for OpenWrt, an open source firmware, according to the manufacturer. For this, cooperation would have been sought with the developers of this alternative firmware. Furthermore, Linksys plans to include openvpn and wifi scheduling functionality in future versions of its own firmware.

According to Linksys, the WRT1900AC will be in stores from April 14. The suggested retail price of the router is 279 euros.
