Kuo: Apple delays iPhone with Touch ID sensor behind the screen until 2023
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo writes that Apple will probably come with an iPhone with a Touch ID sensor behind the screen in 2023. Touch ID behind the screen was previously expected in the 2022 iPhones. Kuo also expects Apple to release a foldable iPhone in 2024.
Kuo states in his most recent analysis that users should not expect Apple to put an iPhone with Touch ID behind the screen next year, writes 9to5Mac. “We have adjusted our forecast for the release of the iPhone with under-display fingerprint scanner to the second half of 2023,” the analyst said. According to Kuo, the development of such a sensor has been delayed, and an introduction in 2022 is therefore no longer feasible.
Rumors have been circulating for some time about the reintroduction of Touch ID in iPhones. Bloomberg journalist wrote in August that Apple had tested a Touch ID sensor behind the screen for the iPhone 13 devices, but that this feature would not be introduced in 2021. Ming-Chi Kuo reported in June that Apple is introducing such fingerprint scanners in the expected iPhone 14 series, which should appear in the second half of 2022. Kuo has now adjusted this expectation.
Kuo also reports in his new report that Apple is delaying its foldable iPhone until 2024. The analyst previously wrote that Apple would release a foldable iPhone in 2023. The analyst now reports that the development of the foldable iPhone has also been delayed. Apple’s first foldable was expected to have a screen diagonal of 7.5″ to 8″, and Kuo previously expected Apple to ship 15 to 20 million.
