Rockstar Games has reportedly halted development on the Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto IV remasters for the time being. After the controversy surrounding Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, the developer would focus on the new GTA for the time being.

The developer would have been planning for years to make remasters of the original Red Dead Redemption and GTA IV from 2010 and 2008 respectively. While the plans haven’t been completely scrapped yet, Rockstar would hold off on new remasters for now, reports Kotaku. The unannounced remasters in question would not be released until after the next major Grand Theft Auto game at the earliest.

Around the time of the critically acclaimed remaster trilogy’s release, Kotaku learned that Rockstar would make a decision on whether to remaster Red Dead Redemption and GTA IV based on the trilogy’s reception and sales. Although the reception from both critics and fans was particularly poor, the collection turned out to be surprisingly well sold.

The deletion of the remasters was initially considered by the usually well-informed leaker Tez2 brought outafter which Kotaku managed to confirm the rumor with its own sources.

Red Dead Redemption (2010) and Grand Theft Auto IV (2008) are significantly less old than Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
