Kaspersky apologizes for publishing ‘wrong piece’

Kaspersky has apologized for an article it posted online Friday. In that piece, the Russian security company wrote that internet users should not be afraid of being watched.

Kaspersky said Friday afternoon that the article was a draft of a column by an independent writer. “It was published by accident. Kaspersky apologizes for the confusion this caused,” the site reads.

The original article has since been removed, but can still be consulted via Google’s cache. The article stated that internet users should not be afraid of being watched. It would be useful if, for example, a search engine knows where the user is. This led to disbelief among Bits of Freedom in particular, because that organization believes that it is very difficult to determine what someone does or does not share.

Kaspersky now expressly distances himself from the article and also writes that the writer’s point of view does not match that of the company. The Russian antivirus maker did not disclose how the article could appear on the site by mistake.
