Avalanche Studios shows a first gameplay trailer of its new game Generation Zero. The open world game is set in Sweden in 1989. Players must survive in a world taken over by machines.

The game can be played as single player or in co-op with four players at the same time. The protagonist is a young adult who returns from an island excursion to discover that the world has been abandoned and taken over by mysterious robots. Players must survive in the open world and look for resources to fight the machines.

Players can take out robots and make sure they don’t break completely, to use parts of them to customize their own weapons. Avalanche creates Generation Zero with its Apex engine, which is also used for the Just Cause games. At the same time, the studio is working on Just Cause 4 and Avalanche is working on Rage 2 with id Software.

Generation Zero is set to release in 2019 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. In the fall of this year, the studio will hold a closed beta. Interested parties can register for a chance to participate.
