It’s almost that time of the year again: in about a month Apple will probably give a keynote. Traditionally, the new iPhone is in the lead in the September keynote, but it does not stop there. What’s on the program this year? These are our expectations for the Apple keynote of September
1. iPhone 2018
Not one, not two but three iPhone 2018 models may be on the program this year. All three models have the necessary similarities with the iPhone X that appeared last year. That is, a front that is a single screen, with only a narrow border around it and without a home button. Unlocking is now done with Face ID. The iPhone’s performance continues to improve this year thanks to the super-fast A12 processor and an expansion of the RAM. Fast charging with a usb-c charger is now the standard.
There are two OLED models with a 5.8 and 6.5 inch screen and a vertical dual camera. In addition, there is a ‘budget model’ with a 6.1-inch LCD screen and a single camera. This device differs further because it is available in striking colors . Some rumors speak of a somewhat thicker edge and coarser notch .
2. iPad Pro 2018
The iPad gets a real metamorphosis for the first time in its existence. Apple is expected to release the new iPad Pro 2018 next month, which has a lot of similarities with the iPhone X. The iPad Pro gets a large screen with narrow edges. The home button will expire, your iPad will unlock you with Face ID in the future. It is still questionable whether the camera system required for this is eliminated in a notch, just like the iPhone X, or whether the edge is wide enough for this. We may also say goodbye to the regular headphone connection on the iPad two years after the iPhone already happened. As in the past, the Pro appears in two sizes, 10.5 and 12.9 inches. The screens remain the same size, the iPad case in total is slightly smaller. This is possible because of the reduced edge.
3. AirPower & renewed AirPods
Last year with the iPhone 8 (Plus) and the iPhone X the first wireless rechargeable iPhones were announced. Apple also presented the AirPower mat, which allows you to charge up to three accessories at once – an iPhone, an Apple Watch and updated AirPods. ‘Early in 2018’, was still the promise at the time, but Apple ran into various problems in the production against . Meanwhile we hope that the AirPower and the wirelessly rechargeable AirPods will be released in September.
4. HomePod mini
Last year, Apple announced the HomePod a smart speaker with Siri integration. Since February, HomePod is for sale in a number of English-speaking countries and in June Germany and France also joined this list. The HomePod mini is a bit less exclusive and the options are more limited, but you can also see that on the price tag. This HomePod variant would appear under the brand Beats.
5. Apple Watch Series 4
It could well be that a new Apple Watch is coming. The series 4 looks different for the first time than its predecessors. The screen gets bigger : the current dials are 38 or 42 mm, later you can choose between 39.9 and 45.2 mm. Because the screen goes much further to the edges and corners, the watch remains the same size for the rest. The battery would also improve again this year.
6. Renewed Macs
Apple released a new MacBook Pro 2018 last month, but it is quite possible that more Mac news can be reported in September. The rumors are not yet very concrete. There is talk of a renewed iMac with a better screen and a cheap version of the MacBook (which could mean the end of the MacBook Air). The most striking rumor, however, is a completely new Mac mini. The mini has not been modified since 2014, but 2018 could just be the year of the Mac mini.
7. Release date iOS, macOS, watchOS & tvOS
Do not plan to buy new Apple products? With the new operating systems your old stuff will feel like new again. During the WWDC in June, Apple announced iOS 12 tvOS 12 watchOS 5 and macOS Mojave . During the keynote in September we will hear when exactly we can download and install the new software. It is expected that a week after the keynote.
