Instagram now lets users save live videos too

Instagram now makes it possible for mobile app users to save live videos. This feature will be available on both Android and iOS starting Monday in version 10.12 of the Instagram mobile app.

The videos can be saved by the creator once they are played. For this, the creators can press ‘save’ in the top right corner of the screen at the end of a live broadcast. If not, the streamed videos will simply disappear from the app. Instagram has announced this.

With this addition, Instagram joins the Periscope program from Twitter and Facebook Live, which have already had the option to save videos for some time. When Instagram Live was introduced in late 2016 and the option of streaming live broadcasts became available, an Instagram product manager defended the lack of the option to save the videos. Users would then feel more comfortable using the feature.

The new functionality only allows to save the video. Any comments, likes or viewer count will not be saved. The option to save the live videos is currently only available in the mobile app. According to Instagram, more improvements are coming this year for streaming and watching live videos.
