Immersion presents technology behind HD Rumble rumble function from Nintendo Switch
The American company Immersion has presented TouchSense Force, its technique for game developers and accessory makers to integrate haptic feedback. Nintendo uses the system on the Switch, while Oculus applies it to its Touch controllers.
If game developers and accessory makers work with Immersion’s software, they can take advantage of the capabilities that TouchSense Force offers on both the Rift and Switch, the company claims. TouchSense Force allows for more effects with the vibration motor, such as feeling the pressure of a digital bow and arrow on a controller.
Immersion also has an Unreal plugin and should make it possible to create the haptic feedback code for multiple platforms at once. It is unknown which games and accessories will work with the technique.
Nintendo already announced the HD Rumble feature for the Switch, but didn’t say which company is behind that technology at the time. Immersion previously made haptic feedback systems on both Xbox and PlayStation.
