GTA VI trailer sets world record for most viewed game announcement in one day

The first trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI has been viewed more than 90 million times in one day. Never before has a game announcement been viewed so many times within 24 hours, confirms Guinness World Records. GTA VI was announced on Tuesday and will be released in 2025.

The first Grand Theft Auto VI trailer is the most viewed game announcement on YouTube in 24 hours with 90,421,491 views. wrote Guinness World Records on Wednesday. The organisation reported several hours after publication from the trailer that the announcement would break that record and has now made it permanent. After about 38 hours, the video has now been viewed more than 104 million times. The most viewed trailer of all time currently belongs to Subway Surfers, which had more than 358 million views in 2018.

According to the Guinness World Records organization, the trailer is now also the video game trailer with the most likes on YouTube: after one day that counter stood at more than 8.9 million. It is also the most viewed non-music video on YouTube in 24 hours, the organization writes. Until recently, that record was held by Mr. Beast, with a video that was viewed 59.4 million times in one day.

Rockstar Games announced Grand Theft Auto VI on Tuesday. The game takes place in modern-day Vice City, in the fictional state of Leonida. The game will have a female main character named Lucia, who, together with her yet unnamed partner, forms a kind of Bonnie-and-Clyde duo. The game will be released sometime in 2025 for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. The developer is not yet talking about a release on PC.
