Google has introduced a new developer tool that can encourage users to update outdated apps. The tech giant reports that half of all Android users update their apps when they see such a notification.

According to Google Developers can use certain criteria so that not everyone will see the notifications. For example, it is possible to select by app version, by region and country, and by Android version.

The notifications appear every time an app is started and in full screen. The user has the option to dismiss the notification, but will see the message again when the app is closed and then restarted. If a user decides to update their app, the latest version will be installed.
