Google uses algorithm to predict flight delays

Google uses algorithms and historical data to predict whether certain flights may be delayed. Travelers can also take delays into account, even if they are not yet on the signs.

For example, Google takes into account whether the plane is delayed on the journey to the airport, which may cause a delay in the departing flight, according to a Google blog. The search giant emphasizes that people still have to be on time at the gate and keep an eye on information at the airport itself.

Google will only pass on the prediction if the algorithm is 80 percent sure that the delay will indeed occur. It uses historical flight data for this. In addition to the predictions, Google now also lists reasons for delay. The information is visible when typing the flight number in the search engine or the airports of departure and destination. The information is immediately visible in the search engine.
